WASHINGTON – In a game that lived up to its location, the Washington Swamp and the New York Times fought to a 3-3 gridlock on Saturday night.
The teams traded goals all evening, with neither able to pull away. Sylvia Plath played hero for the Swamp, scoring the game-tying goal. Plath also added an assist for a two-point night.
Washington opened the scoring on a goal from Linus Torvalds, with assists from Julian Assange and Chuck Palahniuk.
The New York Times responded with two straight goals to take the lead. The Notorious B.I.G. got the first, set up by Ozzie Smith and Mark Messier. Malala Yousafzai followed, scoring from The Notorious B.I.G. and Jerry West.
The Swamp’s Chuck Hull tied the game at 2-2, converting on a pass from Alexander Ovechkin and Sylvia Plath.
Messier, who had an assist earlier, scored an unassisted goal to put the Times back on top 3-2. However, Plath’s unassisted goal for Washington knotted the score at 3-3, where it would remain.
Mark Messier (1 G, 1 A) and The Notorious B.I.G. (1 G, 1 A) matched Plath with two-point performances for New York.
The Times outshot the Swamp 40-29 in the evenly-matched contest.
